Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society (SCIGS)

The purpose of the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society is twofold.  First, the Society provides educational programs and research materials to assist members in their own family history research.  Second, Society members work within the community to preserve and provide access to historical records that document the history of Scott County.  Some Society projects include indexing births, marriages and deaths reported in the Davenport Democrat newspaper from 1899-1946 and working in partnership with Scott County to microfilm county birth, marriage, death, probate and court records.

SCIGS has built an extensive library of research materials that support genealogical research in Scott County, the State of Iowa and many other states, especially in New England.  The Society houses their collection in the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center at Davenport Public Library.  You can learn about specific titles by searching the Library’s online catalog or by calling the Special Collections Center.

The Society meets at 7:00PM on the first Monday of each month with the following exceptions:  The September meeting is held the first Monday following the Labor Day holiday and no meetings are held in January or July.

Meetings are held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady Street, Davenport, Iowa.  Programs are announced in advance.  For specific program topics or possible meeting location changes, please call the Special Collections Center at 563-326-7902.

You do not have to be a member to attend Society meetings!  Visitors are always warmly welcomed.

Quad-City Heritage League

The Quad-City Heritage League is an umbrella organization of local groups that work to preserve and interpret the history and heritage of the Quad-City area and it’s residents.  The League publishes a newsletter and calendar of heritage-related events and offers workshops and training for its member organizations’ members.
