Genealogy at your fingertips!
Tired of finally finding that one vital clue to your family’s history on the Internet, only to be asked for your credit card number before you can see it? Don’t give up—the Davenport Public Library has taken care of the problem for you!
HeritageQuest Online may now be accessed for free through every workstation at both the Main and Fairmount locations and is also available through remote access for patrons who have Davenport Public Library cards.
HeritageQuest offers the federal census, hundreds of searchable genealogies and histories, the Periodical Source Index (PERSI), Revolutionary War records, and records from the Freedman’s Bank covering 1865-1874.
To access HeritageQuest from our library computers, all you need is a barcode number issued by any Quad-City area library. If you are a visitor to our area, just show a photo ID at the Special Collections Desk or the Customer Service Desk, and we will give you a one-day Visitor’s Card.
After you have logged onto a library computer, there are only three easy steps to accessing HeritageQuest:
1. Click on Internet Explorer to access our Public Menu.
2. Select "For Genealogists" from the left sidebar.
3. Select HeritageQuest from the list of resources.
Please Note that there is a two-hour daily time limit on the library’s public access workstations.
To access HeritageQuest from home, you must have a Davenport Public Library card; our license agreement with the company restricts us from giving remote access to non-residents of our city.
2. Click 'Do Research Online' on the left hand side of the screen
3. Select 'Genealogy & Local History' under 'Databases by Subject' list
4. Select 'HeritageQuest Online'
5. Enter your Davenport Public Library Card barcode
6. Start your research!
